Server Migration — Fukuoka, Japan
Sakura Dedicated Server End of Service — how to choose a destination, and the part about "after you migrate"
Just as important as the migration itself, yet rarely discussed, is "who will look after the migrated server from here on." We work through it in order, from clarifying the situation to operating after migration.
① Clarifying the situation (the facts)
- Sakura Internet's "Sakura Dedicated Server" 4th–7th generation and the Koukaryoku series reached end of service on 30 June 2026 (the 1st–3rd generations had already ended on 30 November 2025).
- Sakura's official migration support centers on providing migration coupons (worth roughly ¥50,000–150,000, etc.). Their official guidance explicitly states that "the server migration work (data migration, building the various systems inside the server, and so on) must be carried out by the customer," and third-party migration partners are introduced for the actual work.
In other words, the practical work of migration was, by design, left as the user's responsibility. Whether you have already finished migrating or migrated at the last minute, the homework of "an operating structure for the new environment" remains for everyone.
② Comparing the migration options
| Migrate yourself | Migration agency | Migration + ongoing operations partner | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Migration work | Done in-house | Done by a specialist agency | Done by the partner |
| Technical hurdle | High (requires knowledge of OS, middleware, and data migration) | Low | Low |
| Operations after migration | Still in-house | Out of scope as a rule (ends when migration completes) | Managed continuously on a monthly basis |
| Best suited when | You have operations staff in-house | You just need the migration done and already have an operating structure | Who looks after it afterward has not been decided |
To be honest, if all you need is the migration work itself, a migration agency is a perfectly strong option. Sakura's own site introduces partners, and that market already exists.
The problem is that, in many cases, the contract ends there. The moment migration is complete, responsibility for operating the new server returns to you.
③ Is "migrate and done" really enough?
In environments that have used a dedicated server for a long time, it is not unusual to reach a state where "a previous person built it, and no one now understands the whole thing." Migration is also the act of copying that state into a new environment. After migration, has it been decided who will handle work like the following?
- Security updates for the OS and middleware (leave them and vulnerabilities accumulate. Even recently, in July 2026, attacks against a critical WordPress core vulnerability were confirmed)
- Taking backups and confirming you can actually restore them (thinking you have a backup but being unable to restore is a classic accident)
- Uptime monitoring and first response when something fails
- Renewal management for SSL certificates and domains
- The next OS end-of-life (EOL) response that will inevitably come in a few years
Each of these is a small task on its own, but they are the kind that pile up risk the moment you stop doing them. We believe that deciding "who handles operations" at the same time as "choosing where to migrate" is the surest way to prevent the next last-minute migration.
④ We take on operations after migration, all together
RINSAI TECH Inc. (Fukuoka) provides ongoing management and maintenance after migration (a monthly managed VPS / server operations service). From consulting on the migration work to the day-to-day operations that follow — security updates, backups, monitoring — we take it on end to end. With a small, highly efficient team that leverages AI, we can also issue qualified invoices (インボイス).
"We have not finished migrating yet," "we migrated, but operations are left hanging" — any stage is fine. Start with a free consultation and assessment where we hear about your current situation.
